Can robots know what's right and wrong

Here's an interesting little video on the bbc website that talks about the need to think about how we will deal with robots making decisions and the ethics involved. Do you think robots will be capable of making ethical decisions in the future and who will be accountable for their actions?

Can robots know the difference between right and wrong?

  4. This is a huge philosophical question, too big to be summed up in a comment box that fundamentally has to do with the concept of free will. Excellent post, fun video.

  5. I say we just put this question into a super computer and let it decide.

  6. Humans react to ethical problems in different ways, if a robot could ever do so it would still be massively unpredictable

  7. If humans can't make ethical decisions or take responsibility for them, is it fair to expect so much from a robot?

  10. Good points some of you make. A question you could ask along side it is what is right and wrong? Do we even know? Robots may be able to be ethical but conclude something different than we might. But humans have to conform to ethics to get along in our society so could robots manage to do it too?

@Santa is Drowning: interesting that you brought free will into the equation. I may thin abut this further and write up something proper.

  11. Robots can know what's right and what's wrong, but only if the man who built them knows that,
